Perfumers mix aromatic chemicals to make perfume formulas. Most perfume formulations contain anywhere from six to 60 or more aromatic chemicals. Many aromatic chemicals are also used in the formulation of spices such as baked goods, beverages, confectionery and alcohol. The use of fragrances began in the early 20th century, when synthetic fragrances such as aldehydes were first used in perfumes.
Some aromatic chemicals are very strong, while others are very soft and light.
That's the nature of chemicals. This is actually a good thing because it makes it easier to make a multifaceted formula. If all the scents are very strong, it's difficult to create a balanced perfume.
