2,6-Dimethyl-2-heptanol has not yet been found in nature, is a colorless liquid with a delicate, floral odor reminiscent of freesias. It is synthesized from 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one and methylmagnesium chloride by a Grignard reaction, followed by hydrogenation, and is used in floral perfume compositions. |
